A chilling case of domestic homicide has come to light in Jharkhand four months after the victim went missing. Savita Sanga, a resident of Chiraundi in Ranchi, was murdered by her husband Sukra Lohra following a domestic altercation. In an attempt to destroy evidence, the perpetrator disposed of her mortal remains in a river in Chhattisgarh. Acting swiftly on a formal complaint, the Bariatu police took the accused into custody, and he was officially arrested after confessing to the gruesome act during interrogation.
Savita Sanga lived in Chiraundi, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bariatu police station. She was professionally employed as a Block Program Manager (BPM) with the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) in the Latug block. Her husband, Sukra Lohra, served as an active jawan in the Tripura Rifles and was stationed in Chhattisgarh at the time of the incident.
Four Months of Silence Raised Serious Suspicion
Family members had been unable to establish any contact with Savita for nearly four months. As calls went unanswered and days passed without any communication, her relatives grew increasingly distressed. They initiated an independent search to locate her whereabouts and repeatedly contacted her husband for answers. However, Sukra consistently evaded their inquiries and offered dismissive excuses to keep the family in the dark.
Alarmed by his suspicious behaviour, Savita's sister eventually approached the Bariatu police station and lodged a formal First Information Report (FIR). Law enforcement authorities acted promptly, tracking the leads and bringing Sukra Lohra in for interrogation. Faced with sustained questioning, Sukra finally broke down and revealed that Savita was dead, unraveling the sequence of events that led to her murder.
Victim Vacated Ranchi House to Visit Husband
Investigative findings revealed that Savita had vacated her rented accommodation in Chiraundi in May to visit her husband in Chhattisgarh. Sukra was posted there on active duty. Crucially, Savita's maternal family was never informed about her journey to Chhattisgarh, leaving them completely unaware of her physical whereabouts during that period.
While trying to trace her steps, the family visited her Chiraundi residence and spoke to her landlord. The landlord informed them that she had relinquished the tenancy in May specifically to travel to Chhattisgarh. This critical piece of information intensified the family's fears of foul play, leading directly to the police complaint.
May 15 Dispute Ended in Murder Beside River
After Savita arrived in Chhattisgarh, a bitter confrontation erupted between the couple over an undisclosed matter. Police stated that on May 15, the argument escalated violently, during which Sukra assaulted Savita brutally. She succumbed to her injuries during the altercation.
Following her death, Sukra sought to conceal the crime by dumping her body into a local river in Chhattisgarh. He then maintained absolute secrecy, deliberately hiding the entire development from Savita's relatives. Whenever her kin reached out seeking information, he claimed ignorance and avoided giving direct answers to conceal the fatality.
Couple Married 18 Months Ago at Dewri Temple
Savita Sanga and Sukra Lohra tied the knot about one and a half years ago in a traditional ceremony at the Dewri temple. Following their marriage, the two initially cohabited. However, their living arrangements changed when Sukra was transferred to Chhattisgarh for his military posting.
While Sukra relocated to his duty station, Savita continued her employment in Ranchi. She decided to visit him in May, which tragically culminated in the fatal assault. Police officials are currently verifying the crime scene and searching the river area to recover evidence, with further procedural investigations actively underway.
