A driver died in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, after a liquor company's Bolero was swept away by a swollen drain during heavy rain. The vehicle was crossing a cutting nala in the Belkheda police station area when it got dragged into the fast current. Four people, including the driver, were in the vehicle. Three were rescued safely, while the driver drowned, leaving the neighbourhood shaken and prompting an immediate rescue response.
How the accident happened
According to available information, the Bolero was in the middle of crossing the nala when the driver misjudged the depth of the water and the speed of the current. That misjudgement sent the vehicle out of control and into the fast moving flow. As soon as word of the accident spread, Belkheda police and local administration teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Three saved, driver could not be revived
During the rescue operation, three occupants of the Bolero were pulled out safely. The driver, identified as Ravi Pille, a resident of the Cantt area, drowned and could not be saved. Police recovered his body, completed the panchnama process and sent it for a post mortem. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. With rain continuing unabated, the administration has appealed to residents not to take any risks when water levels rise in rivers and drains, and to use only safe routes.
