Monsoon activity is significantly intensifying across Madhya Pradesh. According to the latest forecast from the Meteorological Department, widespread rainfall is expected across many parts of the state starting Monday, June 29. The state is currently experiencing heavy cloud cover due to a continuous supply of moisture coming from both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Meteorologists have cautioned that while many districts will witness light to moderate rainfall, some areas are expected to receive heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning strikes. During this weather event, wind speeds are anticipated to reach between 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. While this is expected to cause a slight dip in daytime temperatures, humidity levels will remain high.

Forecasted Regions for Heavy Rainfall

The weather department has highlighted several districts that are likely to see the most intense activity, including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Narmadapuram, Sagar, Rewa, Shahdol, Chhindwara, Betul, Mandla, Dindori, Sidhi, Seoni, and Balaghat. In some locations, localized heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas. For Monday, maximum temperatures in most districts are expected to range between 33 °C and 35 °C, while minimum temperatures will likely hover between 25°C and 26°C. Observations from the past 24 hours indicate that scattered rainfall occurred in districts including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Sagar, Chambal, and Rewa. Yesterday, the highest temperature was recorded at 42°C in Amariya, while the minimum was 20.4°C in Khandvi.

Advisory for the Agricultural Sector

Given the forecast, farmers have been advised to ensure proper water drainage systems in their fields. It is recommended that in areas where heavy rain is expected, agricultural operations should be paused until the weather clears. Farmers are also strongly urged to avoid working in fields during lightning storms. The current delays in the monsoon are affecting the sowing of Kharif crops, specifically soybeans, rice, maize, and cotton. Farmers in regions without timely rainfall may need to postpone sowing or face the risk of needing to re-sow their crops if conditions do not stabilize.

Essential Safety Precautions

Residents are encouraged to check the latest weather reports before stepping out of their homes. During periods of heavy rain, avoid traveling through routes prone to waterlogging. It is critical to stay away from open fields, trees, and electrical poles during thunderstorms to minimize the risk of lightning strikes. Seeking shelter in secure, covered locations during such weather is strongly recommended.

What this means for you

Across India: During monsoon weather, avoid routes prone to waterlogging and seek shelter immediately when thunderstorms occur.

In Madhya Pradesh: Farmers in the predicted heavy rainfall zones are advised to pause sowing operations until weather conditions improve.
