The brazen attack took place at Bishnunaha in Yairipok around 8:15 pm on September 3, marking the second time within a span of just one week that an elected representative in the state has been directly targeted by such violence. According to an official statement issued by the public relations officer of Meghachandra, the explosive device was hurled dangerously close to the main entrance gate of his residential premises.

Fortunately, no individuals sustained any injuries in the sudden blast, but the identities of the perpetrators behind this violent act and their underlying motives remain completely unknown. A suspected hand grenade had detonated near Ranjan’s home around 1:30 am on August 28, causing visible damage to a portion of the western boundary wall surrounding the property. Much like the recent incident at Meghachandra's home, no casualties or injuries were reported in that earlier blast either.

Following the attack on his residence, Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh personally visited the site to inspect the damage, while angry local residents organized a sit-in protest to denounce the violence. MLA Ranjan had also raised serious questions regarding the motive behind the earlier assault, noting that he had recently traveled to Delhi to hold discussions with central leaders concerning critical issues facing Manipur. Ranjan had maintained at the time that he harbored no personal enemies and had never received any extortion demands or threats from any organization prior to the explosion.
