Lebanon's president has issued a grave warning regarding a dangerous escalation in hostilities following a fresh wave of military strikes that have further strained fragile regional stability. Fresh Israeli air strikes targeting a village in southern Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of at least 11 individuals, among whom are two children, according to reports from Lebanese state media.
Details of the Deadly Strikes in Kfar Rumman
According to the National News Agency, nine people lost their lives in a devastating initial strike that completely flattened a three-storey residential building located in the village of Kfar Rumman shortly after midnight. In a subsequent separate attack, a moving vehicle was struck, resulting in the immediate deaths of two paramedics who were responding to the crisis. In response to these developments, the Israeli military stated that it was actively looking into the reports coming out of the region.
Broader Conflict and Ceasefire Concerns
This latest violence follows strikes on Sunday that claimed the lives of seven people in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military stated at the time that those earlier actions were retaliatory measures launched in response to drone attacks executed by the armed group Hezbollah against Israeli troops operating in occupied areas of the country. Expressing deep alarm over the trajectory of the violence, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun warned that the ongoing attacks constitute a dangerous escalation. He emphasized that the situation directly jeopardises the US-brokered ceasefire agreement reached in June, which was originally established to bring a lasting end to the armed conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
