Commuters travelling towards Central and South Delhi are likely to encounter severe traffic gridlocks on the newly opened Barapullah Phase-3 elevated corridor on the first working day following a three-day holiday weekend. Motorists have been advised to consider using conventional alternative routes to prevent getting caught in extended delays.
Surging Traffic Volume After the Long Break
While the corridor experienced smooth vehicular movement during the extended weekend, the resumption of regular office traffic has dramatically increased volume across the stretch. Compounding the issue, real-time traffic updates for this recently opened route have experienced delays on popular digital navigation platforms, leaving drivers with little advance warning before joining traffic bottlenecks.
Traffic Police Deploy Personnel at Key Junctions
To mitigate congestion and maintain vehicular movement, traffic authorities have rolled out special arrangements for the busy weekday rush. Extra police personnel have been stationed at major entry and exit points across the corridor to manage merging lanes and facilitate diversions if bottlenecks build up.
Mayur Vihar to AIIMS Transit and Corridor Infrastructure
Inaugurated on 29 September 2026 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the signal-free corridor was designed to bridge East and South Delhi, drastically cutting travel time between Mayur Vihar and AIIMS while reducing the transit from Noida into Delhi to around 15 minutes. In addition to initial traffic flow challenges, local inspections recently flagged road safety issues along the cycle track, where low-hanging directional signboards posed an accidental hazard to cyclists, prompting authorities to address on-ground infrastructure adjustments.
