A major infrastructure overhaul is actively reshaping Kota Junction, one of Rajasthan's key transit hubs. Under the central government's Amrit Bharat Railway Station Scheme, the junction is being upgraded into a modern transport center. The comprehensive redevelopment project involves an investment of roughly Rs 207.63 crore. The primary objective behind this large-scale transformation is to equip the facility with world-class infrastructure and provide passengers with an travel environment comparable to modern airports. Construction crews are advancing across several key zones of the complex.
Round-the-Clock Shifts and Platform Block Management
To ensure steady progress without severely disrupting regular train movements, project supervisors have instituted a coordinated execution plan. DRM Anil Kalra noted that more than 400 workers are engaged across two shifts day and night to keep the project on track. The engineering teams have adopted a systematic track block strategy, tackling the station section by section. Under this process, improvement works on platform number 4 have already been finished following an allocated block period. Track and structural renovations are currently underway on platform number 3. Next in the pipeline is platform number 2, while the overhaul of platform number 1 is scheduled to commence after the Diwali festival under a dedicated block.
Airport-Like Transit Features, VIP Lounge, and Accessibility
Once the multi-crore revamp concludes, the visual and functional aspects of Kota station will be substantially upgraded. In order to streamline passenger footfall between platforms, new automated escalators and spacious lifts are being installed across the premises. Travelers awaiting departures will have access to contemporary waiting halls as well as an exclusive VIP lounge designed for enhanced relaxation. For short-term lodging, organized dormitory units are being created on-site. The blueprint also incorporates dedicated access routes and barrier-free facilities tailored for passengers with disabilities, ensuring unhindered movement across every level of the hub.
On-Site Budget Hotel, Ample Parking, and Green Energy
The modernization plan extends well beyond the main platforms to cover the circulating zone outside the station entryways. To effectively manage daily traffic and eliminate congestion, authorities are constructing an expansive parking layout suitable for a wide range of personal and commercial vehicles. In addition, the master plan features an on-campus budget hotel, creating an affordable stay option for visitors arriving from distant locations. Surveillance and physical safety will be maintained through comprehensive CCTV monitoring networks across the station grounds. Promoting sustainable operations, a dedicated solar power plant is being installed to help meet the terminal's energy needs through renewable sources.
New Deadline Set for December 2026
The finished modernization will provide widespread daily benefits not just to residents of Kota, but to hundreds of thousands of commuters throughout Rajasthan's Hadoti belt. Civil engineering operations for this revamp originally began in November 2022, carrying an initial delivery schedule of March 2025. However, unforeseen project delays prevented the original timetable from being realized. With reconstruction works now back at full pace under a renewed push, the railway administration has fixed a firm target date of December 2026 to bring the entire overhaul across the finish line.
