Security forces guarding the international frontier in Jammu and Kashmir have achieved a major breakthrough by detaining a suspicious individual near the border in Samba district. During a routine inspection of his mobile device, law enforcement personnel discovered fourteen phone numbers starting with the country code associated with Pakistan. The recovery of these foreign contacts has heightened concerns for national security agencies, prompting a joint interrogation involving the Border Security Force, the Intelligence Bureau, and local police forces.
The incident unfolded when a BSF patrolling team was conducting its daily rounds along the India-Pakistan border in Samba district. During the patrol, the personnel spotted an individual attempting to conceal himself from the advancing troops. The security team issued a stern warning, ordering him to emerge from hiding and surrender immediately. Following the command, the man dropped to his knees and complied with the surrender order. Although a physical frisking yielded no suspicious physical objects, a thorough inspection of his mobile phone revealed concerning data that alarmed the patrolling officers.
According to security personnel, the suspect's mobile device contained fourteen contacts directly linked to Pakistan. All of these phone numbers began with the plus ninety-two country code, which signifies Pakistan. Upon uncovering these numbers, the BSF immediately placed the individual under detention. Preliminary questioning revealed that the suspect is named Sher Khan and originates from Uttar Pradesh. Early inquiries also indicated that he has recently been residing in the Gummats area of Jammu. Given the presence of numerous cross-border contacts on the device, the matter was treated with utmost gravity and security agencies were put on high alert.
Following the initial inquiry, the BSF handed Sher Khan over to the Ramgarh police station. At present, a joint team comprising Ramgarh police and intelligence operatives is conducting extensive interrogation sessions with the suspect. The joint team is working to determine the identity of the individuals behind the Pakistani numbers found on his phone and the purpose of storing them. Investigators are examining what connections he maintains with individuals across the border and whether he operates as part of an espionage network or reached the border under a malicious conspiracy. Furthermore, authorities are probing his exact motive for staying in Jammu's Gummatt locality while ensuring all legal procedures are strictly followed during the investigation.
