In the 2022 Assembly elections, she achieved a high-profile victory by defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and royal of the former Amethi estate, Dr. Sanjay Singh. While she continues to represent the constituency, public opinion regarding her work over the past few years remains sharply divided ahead of the upcoming electoral test.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the current administration, local resident and voter Sheshnarayan Dubey described the developmental achievements as largely superficial. According to him, essential works such as road construction have been neglected, and civic infrastructure has seen little upgrade. He further pointed out that streetlights installed earlier were subsequently removed. Questioning the effectiveness of the MLA's presence among the public, he demanded a clear accounting of the funds spent, challenging claims that crores of rupees have been utilized for constituency welfare.

Sharing a critical view of the upcoming election, local resident Mahesh Kumar predicted that the incumbent MLA would struggle to retain her seat in 2027. He remarked that Amethi has suffered from a lack of genuine development, calling the situation unfortunate for local citizens. He anticipated that the Bharatiya Janata Party might capture the seat in the next election, though he acknowledged that voter preferences can shift unpredictably as polling day approaches.
Providing a structural perspective on regional politics, voter Kuddus Khan emphasized that elections in Amethi are heavily influenced by caste calculations. He noted that predicting the eventual winner remains challenging until the final moments of campaigning. However, he expressed belief that the electorate's desire for tangible development could drive a change in candidate during the 2027 polls. He drew attention to long-standing civic limitations that continue to affect the town.
According to Kuddus Khan, Amethi has remained designated as a Town Area since 1968 and has not been upgraded to a Municipal Corporation despite decades of growth. He also lamented the loss of major institutions that once contributed to the region's prominence, including the relocation of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) office, the Triple IT campus, and the Food Park. He stressed that administrative decisions should remain free from political bias and that developmental momentum established in earlier years should be restored.

Local resident Rakesh Pandey noted that the MLA did initiate some road construction and lighting projects. He suggested that an elected representative must maintain accessible relationships with all sections of the community.
Reflecting on broader governance, another local voter commended the improvement in state law and order, citing firm action against criminal elements. Turning to the political history of the seat, he recalled that Maharaji Prajapati's 2022 campaign relied heavily on an emotional appeal seeking justice for her husband, Gayatri Prajapati. He noted that this narrative was central to her public speeches and played a decisive role in her victory.
The same voter observed that developmental issues were neither prioritized during her campaign nor raised prominently inside the Assembly. He added that political misalignment between a Bharatiya Janata Party state government and a Samajwadi Party MLA has created operational hurdles for regional projects. Although work continues through the MLA Local Area Development Fund, critics view the output as insufficient. Internal friction within her political party has also become a point of discussion. Meanwhile, another resident maintained that basic road repairs are underway, while calling for stricter checks on administrative corruption across local departments.
