Political confrontation between the government and the opposition intensified significantly during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. On Tuesday, opposition lawmakers staged a protest march inside the Parliament complex to voice their grievances against the central administration. The march was spearheaded by Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, focusing on key national disputes and demanding immediate executive accountability.

The protest march originated at the Prerna Sthal near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and proceeded towards the Makar Dwar. Participating MPs called upon Union Home Minister Amit Shah to deliver an official statement in both Houses of Parliament. Central to their demonstration was the alleged use of excessive police force during a student agitation at Jantar Mantar. Opposition leaders asserted that institutional accountability must be fixed for the actions taken against student protesters.
Priyanka Gandhi Emphasizes Democratic Principles and Responsibility
Addressing reporters during the march, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi questioned the handling of public demonstrations. She stated, "This is a democracy, not a dictatorship." She maintained that any action involving lathicharge, tear gas, or pellet guns against student protesters must originate from specific administrative orders. She stressed that whoever authorized the security response must accept full responsibility for the outcome.
Giriraj Singh Launches Counterattack Against Opposition Leaders
Responding to the demonstration, Union Minister Giriraj Singh mounted a sharp counterattack against the opposition leadership. Directing his remarks at Rahul Gandhi, he remarked, "Rahul Gandhi should not preach, and may the country never get such an unfortunate Leader of the Opposition." He noted that India has seen distinguished Leaders of the Opposition in the past and suggested that current opposition leaders refrain from lecturing the government on student movements.
Giriraj Singh also turned his attention to PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, accusing her of supporting extremist elements. He claimed, "Mehbooba Mufti has always sided with terrorists." Referring to their past political alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, he explained that efforts were made to work together, but the coalition was eventually dissolved when differences proved irreconcilable.
Focus on Ayodhya Temple Offerings and Jammu and Kashmir Statehood
In addition to student concerns, the march brought renewed attention to alleged irregularities concerning offerings at the Ayodhya Ram Temple. Opposition members insisted that the management of donations requires full financial transparency and formal answers from the government. Simultaneously, the demand for restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir was raised forcefully by the marching lawmakers, setting up potential disruptions in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Legislative Agenda and Ongoing Political Deadlock
Despite the protest and opposition demands for ministerial statements, the government pushed forward with its scheduled legislative business. Key cabinet members, including Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Jitendra Singh, were scheduled to present papers and legislative matters before Parliament. With both sides maintaining unyielding positions, parliamentary proceedings remain poised for heated debate and continued stalemate.
