Shiv Sena UBT leader and former Maharashtra minister Aditya Thackeray has mounted a strong protest against the proposed data center and internal Ring Metro project in Thane. Addressing local residents near the proposed data center site in Balkum on Tuesday, he argued that constructing such an industrial facility across a 53 acre area in the heart of the city poses serious environmental and public health risks.
Environmental Hazards of the Data Center
Highlighting the resource consumption of the data center, Aditya Thackeray stated that the facility would require immense quantities of water for its cooling operations. Furthermore, he claimed that power backup generators at the site would necessitate storing approximately 500,000 liters of diesel. The ongoing operations, he warned, would generate continuous noise pollution reaching up to 90 decibels, severely impacting nearby residents.
Concerns Over Tree Felling for Ring Metro
Turning to the internal Ring Metro project, the leader criticized the planned environmental destruction, alleging that around 3,500 trees would be chopped down to clear space for construction. Taking a jab at Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, he suggested that if a data center is so necessary, it should be set up at the Chief Minister's large bungalow in Dare village rather than in crowded Thane. Urging citizens to unite against both initiatives, he assured local residents of complete political backing in their opposition.
