The Legend of Barbarik and Lord Krishna's Divine Boon
According to sacred tradition, Baba Shyam is revered as a manifestation of Lord Krishna and honored as the supreme refuge for the defeated. The origin traces back to the epic Mahabharata, when Barbarik, the grandson of the warrior Bhima, prepared to enter the battlefield. Lord Krishna, appearing disguised as a Brahmin, approached the young warrior and tested his devotion by requesting the sacrifice of his head.
Without a moment of hesitation or doubt, Barbarik offered his head as alms to the Brahmin. Deeply moved by this supreme act of sacrifice and surrender, Lord Krishna bestowed a blessing upon him, declaring that in the current age of Kaliyuga, Barbarik would be worshipped under Krishna's own name of Shyam. The divine blessing also affirmed that he would forever serve as the ultimate savior for those who find themselves helpless or defeated, creating an enduring spiritual legacy that continues to draw millions of devotees to Khatu Shyam Ji.
