A catastrophic accident was narrowly avoided late on Sunday night at the government hospital in Nadol, located within the Rani police station jurisdiction of Pali district. A substantial portion of the plaster of Paris ceiling inside the central hall of the hospital suddenly gave way and collapsed to the floor. Fortunately, the incident transpired in the dead of night when neither patients nor healthcare staff were present in the hall, ensuring no casualties or physical injuries occurred, though the structural failure has brought significant attention to the physical state of the medical facility.
Midnight Collapse Leaves Hall Covered in Debris
The structural failure occurred amid the quiet of late night when the hospital premises saw minimal activity. A large segment of the decorative ceiling came crashing down with a resounding noise, shattering across the waiting area. When hospital employees arrived the following morning to resume their shifts, they encountered the hall littered with plaster slabs, dust, and fractured building material. The extent and weight of the fallen debris clearly indicated that had the incident taken place during peak morning hours, when dozens of visitors and patients gather for registrations and consultations, it would have resulted in severe trauma and bodily injuries.
Immediate Safety Steps Taken by Duty Medical Officer
Upon learning about the collapse, the medical officer on duty, Dr. Gopal Kumar, responded swiftly to prevent any further risk to life. Recognizing the danger of further falling debris, he directed that the primary entrance gate of the hospital be shut down immediately. To ensure that patient care and administrative operations remained uninterrupted, entry and exit movements for patients, visitors, and healthcare personnel were promptly redirected through an alternative gateway adjacent to the ambulance parking bay.
Dr. Gopal Kumar stated that detailed information regarding the ceiling collapse was immediately forwarded to higher departmental authorities and the concerned administrative office. He noted that concrete arrangements are being made to safely clear away the rubble and initiate repair work on the damaged roof at the earliest, with the primary objective of protecting patients while keeping medical services operational.
Elected Representatives Inspect Site Amid Public Resentment
Word of the hospital ceiling collapse triggered immediate discontent among Nadol residents over the management of local infrastructure. Nadol Sarpanch Tikamchand Meghwal, accompanied by members of the panchayat committee, arrived at the hospital grounds shortly after the news surfaced. The representatives carried out a detailed on-site inspection of the battered hall and examined the broader upkeep of the hospital building. They expressed grave concern regarding the standard of past construction, observing that strict quality adherence during civil work and regular maintenance would have prevented such a breakdown.
Building Displays Chronic Signs of Wear and Neglect
Residents from the surrounding area pointed out that the structural shortcomings at Nadol Hospital extend well beyond the ceiling of the hall. Both the external perimeter walls and internal corridors have exhibited severe distress for years. Soon after the facility was formally inaugurated, wall tiles began separating and peeling off in various sections. Furthermore, ceremonial plaques honoring local philanthropic contributors and the hospital's primary signboard have sustained progressive damage, left without remedial upkeep. As a continued safety safeguard, the main gateway will remain sealed for an indefinite period, with all hospital foot traffic routed strictly through the alternate ambulance pathway.
