A couple planning to start a new life away from home found themselves in a sudden predicament when they accidentally missed their train while chatting on the station platform. Having boarded from Jodhpur, the duo left behind a luggage bag containing ₹10.76 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewelry inside the train compartment. The panicked couple immediately alerted the Merta Road RPF officials for assistance. Demonstrating remarkable swiftness, the Railway Protection Force not only recovered the valuable bag intact but also coordinated the safe return of the teenagers to their families.
Engrossed in Conversation on the Platform as the Train Departed
The backstory of this incident originates from a school friendship. The 19-year-old youth and the 17-year-old minor girl studied together at the same educational institution. Their school acquaintance gradually bloomed into close friendship and subsequently into a romantic relationship. Deciding to start a life together far away from their parental homes, they hatched an elopement plan. On Thursday morning, both slipped out of their respective homes without informing anyone, carrying a substantial stash of cash and family valuables.
Upon arriving at the Jodhpur railway station, they boarded the train traveling from Sabarmati to Lalgarh. Their goal was to settle down in a distant city. When the train made its scheduled halt at Merta Road railway station, the couple stepped down onto the platform to stretch and talk. However, they became so deeply engrossed in their discussion that they failed to notice the train signal and its eventual departure. Within moments, the train pulled out of the station, leaving them stranded on the platform.
Swift RPF Intervention and Recovery of the Valuable Belongings
It was only after the train had sped away that the realization dawned upon them that their primary bag, holding all their money and valuables, was still inside the coach. With ₹10.76 lakh in liquid cash alongside precious gold and silver ornaments stored in the bag, sheer panic set in. They rushed to the Merta Road RPF station and informed the duty officers about the missed train and the high value bag left behind in the train compartment.
Recognizing the urgency and the massive amount of money involved, RPF officers acted without delay. Under the explicit directives of Chief Security Commissioner Jyoti Kumar Satija, an immediate alert was sounded across the relevant security network. With the assistance of Nagaur RPF personnel, a search operation was carried out inside the designated coach as the train approached the next station. Thanks to the prompt vigilance of the RPF team, the bag was located and offloaded safely. Upon verifying the contents in the presence of officials, exact cash amounting to ₹10.76 lakh and gold-silver jewelry were found intact.
Prior Missing Person Reports and Family Reunion
Following the recovery of the cash and jewelry, RPF officials initiated detailed questioning of the 19-year-old youth and the minor girl while establishing contact with their parents. This revealed a crucial detail: separate missing person complaints had already been lodged at different police stations by their anxious family members after they vanished from home.
Equipped with this information, the RPF immediately contacted the Jodhpur Police to share the complete case details. Following mandatory administrative procedures, the RPF handed over the young man, the 17-year-old girl, and the recovered cash and valuables to the Jodhpur Police team. Subsequently, Jodhpur Police completed the remaining legal formalities and safely reunited both individuals with their respective families. The prompt vigilance and efficient coordination of the RPF not only safeguarded a massive sum of money and jewelry but also ensured the safe return of two young individuals to their homes.
