In a significant crackdown on illicit narcotics, the police in Rajasthan's Tonk district intercepted a major smuggling attempt, confiscating 5 kilograms of imported high-grade 'OG' cannabis estimated to be worth Rs 5 crore. The operation, executed in the Niwai police station jurisdiction, resulted in the apprehension of a 20-year-old suspect named Lalaram. Law enforcement authorities confirmed that this represents the first major seizure of imported foreign cannabis recorded in the area.
Police Team Strategy and Arrest
The anti-narcotics drive was carried out following instructions from Superintendent of Police Roshan Meena. The District Special Team (DST), under the leadership of DST in-charge Omprakash Choudhary, conducted the raid and secured the illicit contraband. Following the seizure, officers formally took Lalaram into custody and registered a criminal case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Investigation Into Supply Networks
Investigators are actively interrogating the accused youth to uncover the larger logistics behind the shipment. Police are examining the origin of the foreign-grade cannabis, the entry route into Rajasthan, and the intended buyers or distribution channels. Further inquiries are underway to determine whether a wider syndicate is involved in running this illicit trade.
