In an effort to advance planned urban development and improve essential civic amenities across the state, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma held a high-level video conference on Monday with newly elected representatives of urban local bodies across Rajasthan. The virtual session brought together mayors of municipal corporations, council presidents, board chairpersons, and their deputies. The central directive from the state administration was unambiguous: newly formed civic bodies must move beyond routine administrative routines and pursue time-bound developmental goals.
Immediate Focus on Sanitation and Street Lighting Ahead of Deepawali
With the festive season approaching, the meeting placed immediate emphasis on overhauling municipal sanitation and illumination before Deepawali. The Chief Minister instructed civic leaders to ensure that urban areas across the state look clean and properly maintained well in advance of the celebrations. Local administrations were tasked with addressing waste management issues across streets, intersections, and public transit zones.
Parallel to the cleanliness drive, directives were issued to thoroughly inspect and repair street lighting networks across urban centers. Authorities must resolve non-functional lighting along arterial roads, residential neighborhoods, and major commercial hubs. The initiative aims to prevent any inconvenience or safety hazards for residents and market visitors throughout the festive period.
Formulating a Comprehensive 100-Day Action Roadmap
Beyond immediate festive preparations, the Chief Minister outlined requirements for medium-term civic governance. Newly elected urban leaders were instructed to formulate an actionable 100-day development blueprint tailored to their specific municipalities. Each local body must identify urgent neighborhood requirements and prioritize infrastructure interventions accordingly.
Discussions emphasized that structured and systematic urban growth serves as the cornerstone for realizing the broader vision of a developed Rajasthan. The Chief Minister pointed out that electoral duties have concluded and administrative responsibilities have begun. Consequently, public representatives must expedite ground-level execution of infrastructure projects so that residents experience noticeable enhancements in civic services without administrative delays.
Joint Participation of Departmental Leadership and Bureaucracy
The interactive conference witnessed active engagement from key governance figures. Minister of State for Urban Development and Local Self Government (Independent Charge) Jhabar Singh Kharra attended the meeting alongside Chief Secretary V. Srinivas and top officials from allied departments. Mayors from municipal corporations actively shared updates and noted strategic instructions.
The joint participation of elected representatives and administrative leadership underlined the government's dual-phase strategy. The immediate phase centers strictly on rectifying citywide sanitation and lighting before the festivities of Deepawali, which will be followed by rolling out the newly drafted 100-day urban development action plans across all urban local bodies.
