Religious enthusiasm has taken over Dholpur with the start of the Sharad Navratri festival. Marking the first day of the nine-day observance, devotees gathered to offer prayers to Maa Shailputri, formally inaugurating the traditional worship of Goddess Durga. From neighbourhood temples to the central shopping areas, people across the city have turned out in large numbers to mark the festive occasion.
Temple Illuminations and Market Rush for Festive Offerings
Shrines throughout Dholpur have received comprehensive festive makeovers ahead of the celebrations. Sacred spaces have been illuminated with colourful lighting, decorative strings, and fresh floral arrangements. Local commercial streets have experienced steady footfall as families purchase essential prayer materials, including coconuts, decorative Chunri cloths, cosmetic items, and traditional offerings. Inside residential homes and public marquees, families are performing Kalash Sthapana rituals, with men and women observing fasts to take part in religious services.
Sacred Rituals, Akhand Jyot, and Recitations of Durga Saptashati
Over the course of the nine days, devotees will carry out traditional rituals dedicated to the nine distinct manifestations of the goddess. Long lines of visitors formed outside local shrines starting early in the morning to seek blessings. Priests and worshippers in several temples initiated ceremonial recitations of the Durga Saptashati, creating an uplifting spiritual atmosphere. Numerous households also established an Akhand Jyot alongside the ceremonial urns, keeping the sacred flame burning continuously throughout the observance.
Police Introduce Shakti Suraksha Abhiyan for Festive Gatherings
To ensure a safe environment during upcoming Garba and Dandiya dance events, Rajasthan Police have placed their personnel on high alert. The district police administration has introduced the Shakti Suraksha Abhiyan, setting up stringent security arrangements across major celebration grounds. Female police officers have been specifically assigned to monitor festival grounds, keeping a close check on suspicious individuals to deter harassment and antisocial behaviour.
Plainclothes Kalika Units and Digital Assistance Measures
Security arrangements have been further enhanced through the deployment of the specialized Kalika Team, whose officers will operate as decoys in civilian clothes within marquees and neighbouring areas. At larger gathering sites, facilities for women include dedicated help desks, helpline contact numbers, and scannable QR codes for swift digital support. Surveillance covers entrance areas, designated parking lots, and adjacent lanes to ensure that women and young girls can participate in the festivities with confidence and safety.
