Overcoming Financial Hardships to Pursue Cricket
Rajat Baghel grew up facing severe financial constraints. His father earns a modest living operating a small prasad cart outside the famous Baba Vishangiri temple in Dholpur. Given the tight household finances, his paternal aunt stepped in during his childhood and brought him to her residence on Saimpau Road. Under her guidance, Rajat managed his school education alongside relentless hours of training on the cricket pitch, maintaining a disciplined daily routine.
Grinding at Police Line Ground and Training in Bengaluru
Rajat honed his batting mechanics and glovework by practicing daily at the local Police Line ground in Dholpur. His consistent progress eventually earned him a selection for a specialized wicketkeeping training camp held in Bengaluru. Reflecting on his selection, Rajat shared that his father continues to operate the temple prasad stall today and was overcome with emotion upon learning of his son's national team call-up.
Stellar Domestic Record with Debut Triple Centuries
Rajat's cricket career boasts remarkable domestic achievements right from his early years. He announced his arrival by scoring triple centuries in his debut matches for both the Rajasthan Under-16 and Under-19 teams. Furthermore, he registered a fine century against a formidable Mumbai side in the Under-23 division. Having represented Rajasthan twice at the Under-16 level, as well as in the Under-19 and Under-23 setups, Rajat has also been selected for National Cricket Academy (NCA) camps on three separate occasions.
International Exposure and Mentorship Credit
This assignment against Australia will not be Rajat's first stint in national colors. He previously toured Sri Lanka with the India Under-19 squad, where he scored 10 runs and took two catches behind the stumps in a One-Day international fixture.
