With the onset of the winter season, vibrant seasonal markets dedicated to blankets and warm bedding have sprung up across various commercial hubs and roadsides in Ajmer. Stalls display a diverse spectrum of colorful blankets brought directly from renowned textile manufacturing hubs such as Panipat and Ludhiana. However, vendors are facing an uphill battle this season as mounting operational expenses and sluggish retail demand weigh heavily on their profit margins. The sharp rise in wholesale procurement rates alongside elevated freight charges has tightened pressure across the entire local trade.
Steep Rise in Wholesale Prices and Freight Logistics
Merchants report that the initial financial outlay required to stock winter goods has escalated significantly compared to previous seasons. Nitesh, a trader who traveled from Kota to sell blankets in Ajmer, explained that the inventory is procured directly from factories in Panipat and Ludhiana before being transported to local stalls. Both base wholesale prices and inter-city haulage fees have escalated steeply. A freight vehicle trip that previously cost roughly Rs 15,000 to dispatch stock to the city now demands up to Rs 25,000.
Because transport and acquisition overheads have escalated so sharply, vendors have been compelled to mark up retail price tags. This has led to friction at the point of sale, as visiting shoppers frequently bargain down prices based on previous seasons' expectations. Sellers note that parting with merchandise at the lower rates offered by bargain hunters would convert the transaction into a direct financial loss, stalling sales volumes.
Insulation Tech and Value for Money
Despite the commercial strain, stall operators have stocked extensive collections suited to different household budgets and functional needs. Sultan Banjara, an on-site stallholder, noted that the modern blankets incorporate high-insulation technology designed to retain body heat effectively even when severe cold spells arrive. The stock includes premium finishes comparable to selections found in established showrooms, but offered at considerably lower price points.
Sultan Banjara pointed out that operating temporary roadside outlets allows vendors to avoid the steep commercial rents and hefty overhead expenditures carried by formal brick-and-mortar showrooms. Because these structural operational costs are eliminated, roadside traders can pass the savings directly to retail buyers in the form of competitive, accessible pricing.
Traders Await a Drop in Mercury to Spur Demand
Weather patterns are also playing a decisive role in cooling off early-season buying momentum. Business operators observe that temperatures remained relatively mild compared to previous years, when brisk chills during the same calendar stretch usually prompted immediate purchases of winter gear and heavy blankets. While retail stalls are fully assembled and stocked, everyday foot traffic remains thin because consumers have not yet felt the urgent need for heavy bedding. Stall owners are pinning their hopes on an impending drop in temperatures to drive larger customer crowds into the marketplace and restore sales velocity.
