Just hours before voting was scheduled to commence for the first phase of the Rajasthan Urban Local Body Elections 2026, a major vote-buying scandal came to light in Alwar city. Widespread panic and political tension flared across Ward No. 42 following the viral spread of photos and video footage showing cash allegedly being distributed to voters inside sweet boxes in the Diwakari locality.
Late-Night Patrol by Locals Uncovers Cash Scheme
According to local residents in Diwakari, a suspicious car carrying registration number RJ 14 CM 6770 had been driving around the neighborhood repeatedly late at night, around 1:00 AM. Alarmed by the vehicle's persistent and unusual movement, local residents decided to keep watch and pursued the vehicle to see what was happening.
The residents eventually located the car parked in a secluded corner of the Diwakari area, where its occupants were seen hastily unloading several boxes from the trunk. However, as soon as the locals approached the spot, the occupants panicked, abandoning both the car and the stacked sweet boxes before fleeing the scene in the dark.
Rs 500 Notes Discovered Packed with Kalakand Sweets
Upon inspecting the abandoned boxes left behind at the location, the gathering of locals made a startling discovery. Packed inside each container alongside traditional Kalakand sweets were currency notes of Rs 500 denomination. Crucially, the exterior of every sweet box was affixed with an election sticker displaying the photograph of Congress candidate Doolichand Bairwa.
Protests Erupt as Police and Election Officials Launch Inquiry
As news of the incident spread rapidly, a large number of local residents gathered at the scene to voice strong outrage over the open violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Authorities from the local police force and the election department were immediately notified about the cash seizure.
Official teams arrived at the scene shortly after to inspect the evidence, take possession of the abandoned material, and initiate a detailed inquiry into the alleged electoral malpractice.
