The Dakshinmukhi Hanuman temple located in Sanjay Nagar, Ghaziabad, has grown into a major hub of religious faith across the national capital region. A long-standing belief associated with the holy shrine holds that keeping an uninterrupted sacred flame of pure desi ghee burning for forty consecutive days helps devotees fulfill their heartfelt wishes. Driven by this deep spiritual conviction, pilgrims travel not only from Ghaziabad but also from Delhi and adjacent localities to pay homage. Daily worship and the lighting of oil lamps commence from early morning hours, with footfall witnessing a massive surge every Tuesday and Saturday.
Five Decades of Faith and Tradition
Mukesh Devi, who has been actively serving at the temple for a long duration, shares that this south-facing Hanuman shrine is roughly 45 to 50 years old. According to her, the ritual of maintaining the continuous flame for 40 days has been meticulously followed over the decades. Worshippers arrive carrying specific personal prayers and light a lamp of clarified butter before Bajrangbali. The general belief remains that undertaking this devotion with genuine reverence invokes the divine benevolence of Hanuman. Due to the renowned standing of the shrine, people undertake journeys from far-flung regions including Delhi to participate in these rituals.
Spiritual Discipline and Fasting Practices
Dedicated guidelines and personal vows accompany the undertaking of the 40-day continuous flame. Mukesh Devi explains that anyone who assumes the responsibility of tending to the flame carries out the service in accordance with personal devotion and discipline. In several instances, individuals performing this spiritual undertaking abstain completely from consuming grain for the entire forty-day period, sustaining themselves solely on milk and fruits. Temple attendants clarify that such austerity is fundamentally a matter of individual resolve and spiritual dedication rather than an enforced mandate.
Thanksgiving Offerings and Community Feasts
Devotees regularly return to the temple once their prayers regarding employment, children, and personal milestones are answered. Upon the realization of their wishes, families visit together with their children to pay homage and offer chola along with sacred attire to Lord Hanuman. In addition to ceremonial food offerings, many organise traditional sawamani ceremonies or arrange bhandaras to feed visiting worshippers. Situated in F-Block, Sector-23 of Sanjay Nagar, the temple remains much more than an ordinary spot of prayer, representing an enduring sanctuary of resolve, fulfillment, and collective reverence.
