Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp critique against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party administration in Uttar Pradesh, targeting infrastructure development, urban waterlogging, and law enforcement. Addressing a range of issues from the Ram Van Gaman Path and expressway projects to recent incidents in Saharanpur, he accused the administration of failing to deliver genuine progress while prioritizing financial gains for contractors.
Discrepancies in Urban Development Claims
Focusing on major urban centers like Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Prayagraj, the opposition leader argued that substantial financial investments had yielded poor ground realities, pointing out severe waterlogging following seasonal rains. He remarked sarcastically that prominent parliamentary constituencies were witnessing boat rides on flooded streets rather than modern transformation. Furthermore, he claimed that extra bonuses were improperly awarded to the private firm constructing the Kanpur expressway.
Law and Order and Saharanpur Incident
Turning to the developments in Saharanpur, the local police administration faced strong criticism for allegedly harassing opposition members instead of pursuing habitual offenders. He also questioned instances where the chief executive of the state seemingly assumed technical engineering roles in various public works.
Comments on Public Discourse and Culture
Addressing recent video controversies involving religious figures, he stated that while his party holds saints and ascetics in high regard, the creation of controversial media content would naturally invite proportional reactions and public responses.
Future Policy Promises and Technology
Looking ahead, a formal commitment was made that if the party assumes power in the state, an official public holiday will be declared on the birth anniversary of Emperor Ashoka. Touching upon modern technology, he emphasized that artificial intelligence should be harnessed for constructive societal progress rather than being deployed for negative political messaging.
Demolition of Place of Worship
Raising serious concerns over the demolition of a mosque in Saharanpur, he questioned the urgency behind the swift action, noting that the judicial system including high courts and the Supreme Court remains operational. He alleged that the demolition was executed under a deliberate plan and asserted that authorities ought to strictly adhere to established legal and judicial frameworks.
