The holy city of Ayodhya is set to address the perennial problem of waterlogging that disrupts daily life during the monsoon season. To tackle this, the Municipal Corporation has developed a comprehensive master plan aimed at modernizing the city's entire drainage infrastructure. The initiative focuses on providing a permanent solution to flood-prone areas by cleaning existing drains, widening narrow channels, and establishing a robust new drainage network. This strategic effort is designed to ensure that the city's roads remain clear even after periods of heavy rainfall, significantly reducing the inconvenience faced by residents and commuters.
Targeting Sensitive Zones with Modern Infrastructure
Authorities have meticulously identified the most vulnerable parts of the city where geographical constraints prevent the natural discharge of rainwater. Municipal Commissioner Jayendra Kumar revealed that a formal proposal for five permanent pumping stations has been submitted to the state government under the Urban Flood Scheme. These stations are specifically designated for areas where water tends to stagnate for extended periods. The identified priority locations include Chaudhary Charan Singh Ghat, Usru, Jalwanpura, and Janaura, where these permanent pumping systems will be installed to expedite water drainage.
Status of Project Implementation
The decision to expand these facilities follows the successful performance of an existing pumping station in Jalwanpura. Currently, the tender process for the construction of the remaining units is being managed by CNDS. Once the bidding phase concludes, construction activities will commence, with officials aiming to make all five stations operational by next year. At present, the municipal body relies on the deployment of temporary pumps during heavy downpours, which is a resource-intensive and time-consuming process. The new permanent setup aims to reduce the time required to clear stagnant water to approximately thirty minutes.

Municipal officials assert that the completion of this project will drastically reduce the prevalence of waterlogging across the urban landscape. Beyond providing relief to the local population, the upgraded system is expected to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce the disruptions that typically accompany the rainy season.
