An Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) team in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, has carried out a major operation and arrested a drug trafficker carrying a huge consignment of heroin. The accused, identified as Jabbar Khan, a resident of Mohanpur village under Faridpur police station, was caught right outside a hospital in the Meerganj police station area. Officers recovered heroin worth around Rs 2 crore 60 lakh from his possession, along with a mobile phone and Rs 1200 in cash during the search. The scale of the seizure suggests the accused was part of an organised trafficking network.
He was on his way to Dehradun with the consignment
During questioning, it emerged that Jabbar was headed to Dehradun in Uttarakhand with the heroin consignment on the day he was caught. He was passing through the area carrying the narcotics when the ANTF team received a tip-off about his movements. The team quickly cordoned off the spot and intercepted him in front of a hospital in the Meerganj area. A search led to the recovery of the heroin, after which he was taken into custody for detailed interrogation. Investigators also found that the accused had already travelled to Dehradun 20 to 25 times before.
SP says 1 kg 300 grams of smack was seized
Sharing details of the operation, SP Anshika Verma said that on 4 September 2026, the Meerganj police station team and the ANTF unit of Bareilly jointly carried out the action and arrested habitual drug trafficker Jabbar Khan. According to her, 1 kg 300 grams of illegal smack, or heroin, was recovered from him, and its international market value has been put at Rs 2 crore 60 lakh. A mobile phone and Rs 1200 in cash were also seized from him. The SP added that the accused had been running this operation continuously, having travelled to Dehradun around 25 to 30 times in this month alone to supply illegal smack to other traffickers. Jabbar Khan has been arrested and sent to jail, and further legal proceedings are underway in the case.
He ran the trafficking racket along with his brother
During interrogation, Jabbar Khan told police that he ran the illegal heroin supply business together with his brother. The two brothers would buy heroin cheaply and then deliver it to different people in Dehradun. Following this disclosure, police are now trying to trace Jabbar's brother and the other people he was in contact with. The ANTF is working to find out where the accused sourced the heroin from and which districts, besides Bareilly, he supplied it to. Police are also examining his contacts in Dehradun in an effort to expose the entire trafficking network. Investigators hope further questioning will help them reach other members of this interstate gang.
