A startling case has come to light in Lucknow, where a young man posing as an IPS officer repeatedly threatened a woman sub-inspector and pressured her to settle a case she had filed. Police have now arrested him. The accused is a BBA student and is said to be just 21 years old.
The woman sub-inspector is posted in Prayagraj district. Troubled by the harassment, she lodged an FIR over the threats at the Kakori police station. In her complaint she said the accused was constantly harassing her through phone calls and messages. She had earlier filed an FIR in a case, after which this man, claiming to be an IPS officer, began pressuring her to reach a compromise and threatened to have her suspended from service if she refused.
He Claimed To Be IG Patna and SP City
The moment the complaint was received, police swung into action. The number from which the calls and messages were coming was put under surveillance, and its location was traced. Kakori police then nabbed the man, identified as 21-year-old Abhishek Upadhyay, a resident of Jaunpur. Abhishek would threaten the sub-inspector by calling himself IG Patna at times and SP City Prayagraj at others.
Serious Allegations Against Father-in-Law and Husband
The woman sub-inspector had accused her father-in-law of rape and her husband of forcing relations on her. When she protested, she lodged a case alleging firing. It was in this same case that Abhishek called her, claimed to be an IPS officer, and used the fear of suspension to pressure her into a settlement.
According to Kakori inspector Satish Chandra Rathore, the sub-inspector had accused her father-in-law, himself a retired sub-inspector, of rape and of attempting to kill her by poisoning. She also lodged a case at the Para police station accusing her husband of forcing relations on her and of firing a licensed weapon with the intent to kill. In response, the retired sub-inspector father-in-law has also filed a case against the woman sub-inspector.
Probe Followed a Farmers' Union Protest
A farmers' union protested in support of the woman sub-inspector, after which Kakori police took up the investigation into the entire matter. The sub-inspector alleges that Abhishek Upadhyay called her posing as SP City Prayagraj and IG Patna and pressured her to reconcile with the opposing party in the case. When she refused to settle, he threatened to get her suspended from her job.
The surveillance team traced his mobile phone and arrested Abhishek Upadhyay, a resident of Kunwar Pur under Machhlishahr police station in Jaunpur, from RJD Lawn Bhaisora in the BBD police station area.
