A heart-wrenching incident in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, has resulted in the tragic death of a six-year-old boy, triggering immediate and severe administrative action against the individuals deemed responsible for safety lapses. The child lost his life after falling into an open, fifteen-foot deep pit that had become heavily waterlogged due to recent monsoon rains. This devastating event has caused widespread anger and grief among local residents, who are demanding absolute accountability and the immediate securing of all open construction sites across the region.
Tragic Incident During Playtime
The tragic sequence of events unfolded on Saturday evening, July 25, near the Kaladham Society located within the Knowledge Park police station limits. Avyan, a six-year-old boy, was playing outside with a group of other children when he wandered near the massive water-filled hole. The victim has been identified as the son of Seevan Yadav, who holds the position of Vice Principal at the local Kendriya Vidyalaya. The fatal pit had been dug by the local development authority for the purpose of a boring project, but it was left completely exposed and unprotected.
Immediate Rescue Attempts and Loss of Life
According to local residents, the entire tragedy could have been entirely prevented if basic safety precautions had been implemented in a timely manner. Pranjal, a resident of the nearby housing society, explained that around 6:30 PM on Saturday, another young child ran up to him to deliver the terrifying news that Avyan had fallen into the water. Pranjal immediately alerted other neighbours, and three brave individuals descended into the deep, rainwater-filled excavation. After a frantic search, they managed to retrieve Avyan's body and immediately rushed him to the nearest medical facility, where attending medical staff declared the boy dead.
Administrative Response and Public Outrage
The news of the child's drowning sparked massive protests and outrage among the residents of Kaladham Society. In response to the growing public anger, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ashutosh quickly arrived at the site to inspect the conditions. He stated that he received information about the incident through social media channels and immediately mobilized to investigate the ground reality. The local community has forcefully demanded that every open pit in the area be immediately barricaded, prominent warning signs be installed, and strict punitive measures be taken against the negligent officers and the private agency involved in the project.
Criminal Charges, Blacklisting, and Arrests
Following the initial investigation, the Greater Noida Authority lodged a formal complaint at the Knowledge Park police station. The FIR names three individuals: the contractor Manoj Jain, an unnamed junior supervisor, and the technical supervisor Akash. The police acted swiftly to arrest the contractor Manoj Jain, who has also been blacklisted from future government contracts. Additionally, the authority has announced that rigorous departmental action will be pursued against the other two supervisors. Authority representatives claimed that the contractor had shifted the boring setup without their prior knowledge or authorization, which directly contributed to the negligence.
