Three individuals originally belonging to the Shyam Nagar area of Kanpur have gone missing following a massive natural calamity that struck Nepal. The missing persons include Ragini Mishra, her husband Pankaj Mishra, and Poonam Mishra. While they trace their roots back to Kanpur, they currently reside in the United States and had traveled to Nepal for a vacation prior to the disaster that disrupted all communication channels.
Family Approaches District Magistrate for Help
To expedite the search efforts for the missing trio, Praveen Dwivedi, who is the brother of Ragini Mishra, met with Kanpur District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Monday. During the meeting, he formally requested the administration to coordinate through Indian authorities and relevant diplomatic agencies operating in Nepal to trace the whereabouts of his family members and facilitate their safe rescue back home.
Communication Snapped Since Wednesday Disaster
According to the family members, contact with the trio was completely severed following the catastrophic tragedy that hit Nepal last Wednesday. Their last conversation with the family took place just before the disaster struck. Ever since that day, their mobile phones have remained switched off, leaving the relatives with no updates regarding their safety. Although the family reached out to the Nepali embassy to gather information, no concrete details have emerged so far, leaving them in a state of mounting distress.
Death Toll Crosses Nine Hundred in Nepal
Meanwhile, the devastation caused by the floods and disaster in Nepal continues to escalate on a massive scale. Official updates indicate that the death toll resulting from the floods has climbed to 903, while 4,247 people remain unaccounted for. Reports from Chinese media also point out that 16 fatalities occurred on the Chinese side due to the calamity, with approximately 550 individuals still missing in Tibet. By Sunday evening, rescue teams had successfully evacuated roughly 9,500 people from various flood-impacted regions.
Foreign Nationals Among Those Rescued
The extensive rescue operations conducted in the aftermath of the disaster have saved numerous individuals, comprising both local residents and international travelers from several nations. Among those rescued are tourists hailing from India, the United States, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Malta, Turkey, Switzerland, and Portugal. Authorities continue to navigate the difficult terrain to locate remaining victims.
