A major security lapse has come to light in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, where an inter-district history-sheeter and robber named Sudhir Pasi, alias Dhruv Pasi, escaped from police custody at the local Medical College Hospital. Pasi, who was recovering from bullet wounds sustained in an earlier police encounter, slipped away early in the morning on the pretext of visiting the restroom. The daring escape triggered widespread panic within the police establishment. Superintendent of Police (City) Dr. Rakesh Kumar Mishra confirmed the incident, stating that multiple dedicated police units have been deployed to launch a manhunt and recapture the fleeing criminal.
Escape from Hospital Custody Before Scheduled Surgery
According to official details, Sudhir Pasi and his accomplice were arrested on August 2 following an armed encounter with the Gahmar police, during which both suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs. Following initial treatment, Pasi was remanded to district jail custody. However, due to lingering knee complications, he was transferred to the Ghazipur Medical College Hospital on August 21 for specialized surgical intervention. Medical staff had scheduled his knee operation for today. Before the surgical procedure could take place, Pasi asked the guarding personnel permission to use the bathroom during the early morning hours and managed to evade surveillance to make his getaway.
Encounter Arrest and Recovery of Incriminating Evidence
During the August 2 operation, police personnel recovered substantial incriminating items and cash from Pasi and his associate. The seized items included Rs 90,620 in cash, a gold pendant, five mobile phones, a stolen Hunter motorcycle, and two illicit firearms (pistols). Investigators revealed that the confiscated mobile phones and motorcycle are linked to several robbery and theft cases registered across multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Sultanpur, Azamgarh, and Ghazipur itself. Law enforcement agencies are currently mapping these connections to uncover the broader footprint of the criminal network.
Extensive Criminal Record and Active Investigation
Sudhir Pasi carries a heavy criminal profile, with nearly 35 cases filed against him across multiple police jurisdictions. His record spans serious charges, including armed robbery, extortion, theft, and violations under the Gangster Act and the Arms Act. Notably, Pasi was named as the prime suspect in a July 29 incident where a trader was robbed of Rs 60,000 in cash and a gold chain under the guise of negotiating a goat purchase. Furthermore, police had exposed his involvement in demanding extortion money and issuing death threats to the owner of the Kamakhya Dham Marriage Hall. Ghazipur police and the Gahmar station team continue to raid suspected hideouts to locate Pasi and round up the remaining members of his syndicate.
