A domestic dispute turned violent in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, when a man targeted the police emergency response personnel who had arrived at his residence to assist him. The confrontation occurred in Ishwariganj village, located under the jurisdiction of the Bithoor police station, where a Dial 112 Police Response Vehicle (PRV) team was dispatched to de-escalate a reported marital altercation. Instead of cooperating, the intoxicated complainant turned hostile, verbally abused the personnel, and physically attacked a head constable, tearing his uniform and attempting to bite him. Relatives of the man also reportedly engaged in scuffles with the officers before additional forces arrived. Police acted swiftly to arrest the primary suspect, booking three individuals under relevant legal provisions.
Police Called Over Dispute With Wife and In-Laws
The incident unfolded on the night of November 1 at approximately 8:40 PM in Ishwariganj village. Suraj Nishad, a local resident, placed a call to the emergency helpline Dial 112 requesting police intervention. He claimed that his mother-in-law Kiran and his wife Shivani were harassing him and refusing to return his jewelry. Upon receiving the emergency alert, PRV-7056, manned by Head Constable Shivendra Chauhan and Home Guard driver Sunil Mishra, was directed to the location. When the officers arrived to ascertain the facts of the dispute, they found Suraj heavily under the influence of alcohol. Although the personnel attempted to calm him down and address the grievance through dialogue, Suraj began arguing aggressively with the responding team.
Physical Altercation and Uniform Vandalism
The argument escalated rapidly as Suraj began hurling abuses at the police team. As officers intervened to de-escalate the tension, Suraj became physically aggressive and assaulted Head Constable Shivendra Chauhan. During the physical scuffle, the accused grabbed and pulled at Chauhan's uniform, tearing the fabric and ripping off its buttons. In addition to the tearing of the uniform, reports indicated that the assailant also attempted to bite the head constable during the struggle. The violent reaction caught the emergency personnel in an unexpected brawl right outside the residence.
Relatives Join Scuffle as Video Circulates
While the officers were attempting to restrain Suraj, the situation worsened when his brother Danny and nephew Rohit arrived at the spot. Rather than diffusing the tension, both individuals joined the confrontation, allegedly shoving and jostling the police personnel and obstructing official duty. Bystanders and local villagers witnessed the altercation, and some recorded the unfolding chaos on their mobile phones. The video footage capturing the confrontation later circulated widely across various social media platforms.
Backup Arrives to Take Primary Accused Into Custody
Recognizing the severity of the assault on the emergency response staff, emergency backup was requested, prompting additional police personnel from the Bithoor police station to rush to Ishwariganj. The reinforced team brought the situation under control and apprehended the prime accused, Suraj Nishad, on the spot. According to official communication released by the police commissionerate, a case has been registered at Bithoor police station under appropriate legal sections against three named individuals for misbehavior, assault, and obstructing government servants in the discharge of official duties.
Official Statement From Senior Police Leadership
Providing details on the incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Yogesh Kumar stated that on November 1, PRV staff received a distress call regarding a dispute between a husband and wife in the Bithoor area. Upon arrival, as the officers attempted to determine the cause of the quarrel, the husband picked an altercation with the personnel and behaved indecently. During the scuffle, the uniform of a PRV staff member was torn. The official affirmed that police responded immediately to apprehend the accused, and thorough legal proceedings are underway against those involved.
