In Meerut's Saroorpur police station area, a social media influencer and beauty parlour owner was stabbed to death by her husband in the town of Harra. To mislead the police, the accused husband wounded himself with knives after the killing, but a review of CCTV footage exposed the truth and led to his arrest.
What happened
The victim, Nisha Chauhan, ran her own beauty parlour and was also active as a social media influencer. According to police, Nisha frequently clashed with her husband, Pradeep Chauhan, over domestic disputes. The two had reportedly quarrelled a day earlier as well, though the matter had calmed down by nightfall. On Friday morning around 6 am, however, an argument flared up between them again. The dispute escalated rapidly, and an enraged Pradeep allegedly attacked Nisha with a knife in a flurry of blows. Nisha died on the spot after being stabbed repeatedly. News of the killing sent shockwaves through the town.
The husband's cover-up attempt
After killing his wife, Pradeep allegedly wounded himself with knives, apparently to make it look as though someone else had carried out the attack. Police rushed to the spot on receiving information and took Nisha to hospital, where doctors declared her dead. In the initial hours, it was not clear to police who the attacker was, but the direction of the investigation soon shifted.
CCTV footage cracks the case
Police questioned people in the area and also scanned CCTV cameras around the locality. Once the footage was reviewed, suspicion turned toward the injured husband, Pradeep, himself. A forensic team worked alongside the police to gather evidence and took the CCTV footage into custody to carry on the investigation. With solid evidence in hand, police arrested the accused husband even as he was being treated for his self-inflicted injuries. Nisha's body was taken into custody and sent for a post-mortem examination.
Fear grips the locality, probe continues
The broad-daylight killing has left the town of Harra in a state of fear, and various rumours have started doing the rounds locally. As soon as word of the case spread, local police along with senior officers reached the spot and carried out a detailed inspection of the crime scene. Police said the accused husband is being questioned and that every aspect of the case is being investigated impartially to determine the real motive behind the murder.
