Severe questions regarding law and order have surfaced in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh following a distressing incident involving the Rewati police station. The controversy centers on the alleged death of an individual due to police brutality while in custody, followed by the police forcibly intercepting an ambulance to seize the deceased's body. As the grieving family was transporting the body toward their home, police officials blocked the vehicle midway. The situation turned aggressive as officers clashed with the family members, reportedly attempting to force a state-monitored cremation. Near the Ghazipur border, police completely took control of the ambulance and escorted the body away under heavy security deployment, denying the family their right to perform final rites.
Claims of Custodial Brutality
Kamashankar, the brother of the deceased, has leveled serious accusations against the personnel at the Rewati police station. According to his account, following a minor dispute between two local youths, the police arrived at their residence and forcibly took his brother to the station. The family asserts that the individual was subjected to severe physical assault while inside the police facility, which led to a catastrophic decline in his health. Kamashankar further stated that once his brother’s condition became critical, the police abandoned him near a canal embankment rather than seeking medical help. A fellow villager eventually discovered the injured man and managed to transport him back to the family home.
Death During Medical Treatment
Upon realizing the severity of the injuries, the family rushed the victim to the local community health center. After providing initial stabilization, the attending doctors referred him to the district hospital in Ballia due to the complexity of his condition. Upon arrival at the district hospital, medical professionals determined that the patient required advanced care and recommended transfer to BHU. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, the man passed away during his treatment at approximately 12:00 midnight.
