Ganga Prasad, a young male elephant, has earned city-wide fame thanks to his distinctive gait, energetic personality, and unpredictable temperament. Hardly any visitor leaves the zoo without spending time near his enclosure. Unique Traits of the Makhna Species
Ganga Prasad stands out from other elephants due to his distinct physical characteristics. According to Dr. Yogesh, a veterinarian at the zoo, Ganga Prasad is a young adult belonging to the 'Makhna' elephant species. A defining trait of Makhna elephants is their relatively smaller tusks compared to typical male elephants. This feature gives Ganga Prasad a unique look that allows visitors and caretakers to recognize him instantly, setting him apart from other animals residing in the park.
Playful Antics and Occasional Fits of Anger
While Ganga Prasad is often entertaining, he also exhibits a temper. Dr. Yogesh notes that there are occasions when the young elephant becomes annoyed with his mahout. Special care is taken to keep Ganga Prasad comfortable throughout the year. Interestingly, he is the only animal in the entire zoological park to have a customized water fountain system installed inside his enclosure. During hot summer days and changing weather conditions, the fountain provides him with refreshing relief.
