A tragic incident occurred in the Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh when the freshly laid lintel roof of an under-construction house collapsed during heavy rainfall. The structural failure trapped several people who were seated underneath, resulting in 3 fatalities, including a two year old child and two women. Additionally, 6 individuals suffered serious injuries in the accident. Upon receiving emergency calls, district administration officials, police personnel, and rescue teams arrived at the site to conduct rescue operations and assist the victims.
Disaster Strikes During Evening Meal
The incident took place in Tajpur Dungar village, located within the jurisdiction of Saidnagli police station in Amroha district. Construction work was underway at the house of a local resident named Murari, where the lintel roof was being poured on Thursday. Despite heavy downpours commencing in the evening, the construction work continued until completion. Once the labor was finished, family members and workers gathered underneath the newly cast lintel to have their dinner.
Without warning, the entire concrete structure collapsed under its own weight and the impact of the rain, burying everyone sitting below under heavy debris. Hearing the loud crashing sound, nearby villagers rushed to the location and immediately began manual rescue efforts to extract trapped individuals.
Casualties and Condition of the Injured
Villagers managed to pull out several victims from the rubble. However, Meenu, a woman who had arrived at her maternal home from the nearby village of Tarara, her 2 year old son Lal Singh, and an elderly woman named Smriti had already succumbed to their injuries before they could be retrieved. Emergency personnel confirmed their deaths upon extraction.
The collapse also left 6 people critically injured. The injured individuals have been identified as Shivam, Ravi, Kesram, Shivkumar, Naveen Kumar, and Raju. All 6 injured victims were promptly shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment for severe trauma and injuries.
Administrative Response and Inspection Orders
Following the report of the collapse, District Magistrate Dr. Nitin Gaur and Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav rushed to Tajpur Dungar village along with rescue squads. Authorities deployed JCB excavators to clear the heavy debris rapidly and ensure no remaining victims were trapped underneath.
Police authorities took custody of the 3 bodies and forwarded them for post-mortem examinations while initiating an inquiry into the building accident. District Magistrate Dr. Nitin Gaur formally ordered a detailed investigation into the structural failure. Furthermore, the district magistrate issued explicit directives instructing that all ongoing building and roof construction activities across nearby areas be halted immediately during rainy weather to prevent similar incidents.
