A shocking and tragic incident unfolded in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday when a married man and a married woman were found dead inside a hotel room in the Collectorganj area. The duo reportedly ended their lives by consuming poison. Initial investigations and the circumstances surrounding the incident suggest that the two were involved in a romantic relationship. Upon receiving the information, a police team rushed to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation, subsequently taking custody of the bodies and sending them for a postmortem examination.
Arrival at the Hotel on Saturday Afternoon
The deceased man has been identified as Digvijay Singh, a resident of Fatehpur, while the deceased woman has been identified as Shivangi Tiwari, who hailed from Unnao. Both individuals were approximately 33 years old. According to the preliminary findings, both of them were already married to other people but were in a relationship with each other. They arrived at the hotel in Collectorganj on Saturday afternoon at around 12:00 PM and rented a room. After checking in, they retired to their room and did not step out for several hours.
Hotel Staff Growing Suspicious
As the hours passed and no activity was observed from inside the room, the hotel staff became increasingly concerned about a potential mishap. Around 4:00 PM, the staff knocked on the door multiple times, but there was no response or sound from within. After failing to get any reaction despite persistent efforts, the hotel management decided to alert the local police about the situation. A police team arrived at the venue shortly after and opened the door, only to discover the lifeless bodies of the couple inside, leaving everyone present in a state of shock.
Forensic Evidence Gathering and Police Action
Following the discovery, ACP Collectorganj Anand Ojha reached the spot along with a police team to oversee the proceedings. A forensic team was also summoned to the hotel to secure scientific evidence from the room. Forensic experts meticulously analyzed the crime scene, collecting fingerprints and other crucial physical evidence. The police then shifted both bodies to the mortuary of Ursula Hospital for a postmortem examination. The families of both deceased individuals have been notified of the tragedy, plunging them into deep mourning.
Scanning Digital Evidence and Footage
The police are conducting a detailed probe to ascertain the exact circumstances and triggers that led to this extreme step. They have seized the CCTV footage from the cameras installed within the hotel premises. The footage confirmed that the couple entered the hotel together at noon, and no other person was seen entering or leaving their room thereafter. In addition to the footage, investigators are scanning the mobile phones, call detail records, social media activities, and recent contacts of both individuals to uncover the motive behind the suspected suicide pact.
