A 21-year-old undergraduate student was found dead in his Paying Guest (PG) accommodation near Goverdhan Chauraha in the Chhata area of Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh. The matter came to light late on Monday night when the landlord noticed no movement from the locked room throughout the day and alerted local authorities, who subsequently arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
Undergraduate Student Found Dead in Mathura Accommodation
According to police details, the deceased student has been identified as 21-year-old Sarnam Singh, a resident of Bahadurpur Sarai Murlidhar village under the Sirsaganj police station area in Firozabad district. Sarnam was pursuing the second year of his Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree at a private university located in the Chhata zone. To attend his classes, he had been staying in a rented room at a PG near Goverdhan Chauraha. On Monday, the room remained shut from the inside for the entire day without any response or activity.
Sensing that something was amiss due to the prolonged inactivity, the landlord contacted the police at approximately 10:00 PM on Monday night. Upon receiving the call, Station House Officer (SHO) Umesh Chandra Tripathi, accompanied by a police contingent, rushed to the spot. The officers broke open the locked door to gain entry and discovered the student hanging inside. Based on preliminary observations and the physical state of the body, officials suspect that the incident likely took place on Sunday.
Police and Forensic Investigation Underway
During the thorough search of the room, police personnel did not recover any suicide note. A forensic team was dispatched to the scene to collect physical evidence and analyze the site. While primary observations indicate a case of suicide, law enforcement agencies are evaluating every possible angle to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the death.
SHO Umesh Chandra Tripathi stated that the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and the family of the deceased student has been duly informed. Authorities emphasized that a clearer understanding of the exact cause behind the tragedy will emerge once the detailed autopsy findings and further investigative inquiries are concluded.
High-Scoring Teenager Dies by Suicide in Thane Over Admission Distress
In a separate incident in Maharashtra's Thane district, a 17-year-old high-achieving student lost his life after jumping from a high-rise residential building due to distress over college admissions. The minor, living at Hiranandani Estate on Ghodbunder Road, had achieved 95.7 percent marks in his Class 12 examinations. He harbored ambitions of pursuing a dual BS-MS degree program at the Institute of Engineering Science and Technology in Shibpur. However, securing a rank of 10,474 in the entrance examination meant he could not obtain a seat at his preferred institution, leaving him severely despondent.
On Friday evening, the teenager stepped out of his residence under the pretext of going for a bicycle ride. Before taking the drastic step, he sent a final message to his family's WhatsApp group and jumped from the 22nd floor of the building. Local police were alerted to the incident, registered a case of accidental death, and have initiated a detailed investigation into the circumstances.
