Monsoon may have arrived in Uttar Pradesh, but its momentum has clearly stalled for now. The weather department says monsoon activity across the state has dropped sharply over the last three days, even as districts bordering Madhya Pradesh could still see rain, while the rest of the state stays under cloud cover with occasional light drizzle.
Monsoon entered on June 30, then lost steam within days
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, monsoon made its entry into Uttar Pradesh on June 30. It picked up pace quickly after that, and by July 2 most districts in the state had witnessed heavy rainfall. But a low pressure area that formed in the north west Bay of Bengal near the north Odisha coast pulled the weather system southward from its earlier position, leaving the state without any active weather system at the moment.
Weak spell till Monday, monsoon may pick up again from Tuesday
Senior meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh said monsoon activity across the state will remain weak till Monday, but the system could regain momentum from Tuesday onward. He added that, for now, rainfall is largely confined to the southern part of the state and its neighbouring districts, while monsoon activity in the rest of the state will stay limited. Temperatures could also see a partial rise during this spell.
Yellow alert for hot day in Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Varanasi and more
The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for hot day conditions in Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Lucknow, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Gonda, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Amethi, Bahraich and Shrawasti.
Storm and rain alert for western and Bundelkhand districts
At the same time, a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain has been issued for Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Bijnor, Meerut, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit, Rampur, Jhansi, Mahoba and Lalitpur. In effect, while one part of the state braces for heat, another faces the risk of storms and rain.
