In a major crackdown on organized crime and illegal smuggling in Uttar Pradesh, the Mau police achieved a significant breakthrough under 'Operation Prahar'. Late Wednesday night, a fierce gunfight broke out between the police force and a wanted cow smuggler in the Kopaganj police station area. The accused, who carried a bounty on his head, was shot in the leg during retaliatory firing by the police and was subsequently arrested. This encounter is being viewed as a crucial step in the ongoing statewide campaign to tighten law and order and apprehend absconding criminals. The injured suspect has been placed under heavy police custody and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
Late-Night Intelligence Input Sets the Trap
As part of the stringent measures against lawbreakers across the state, police teams in various jurisdictions of Mau have been actively tracing the movements of wanted criminals round the clock. This intensive surveillance yielded results late in the night on July 21. At approximately 2:00 AM, the Kopaganj police received a highly specific intelligence tip-off regarding the movement of a notorious criminal wanted in connection with case crime number 106/26 registered under the Cow Slaughter Act. According to police records, the 35-year-old accused, identified as Ila, son of Nasir and a resident of Chela Ram Ka Pura under the Kopaganj police station, was heading towards the Indara railway station from the direction of Katwas. Acting swiftly on this credible information, the police team immediately mobilized and cordoned off the entire area to prevent any chance of escape.
Warning Leads to a Cross-Firing Incident
Having barricaded the routes around the Indara railway station, the police lay in wait for the suspect. As soon as the accused was spotted approaching from the Katwas side, the officers moved in to intercept him. According to a statement provided by Ghosi Circle Officer Jitendra Singh, the police team completely surrounded the suspect and issued a stern warning, demanding his immediate surrender. However, instead of complying with the lawful orders, the cornered criminal resorted to violence and opened fire directly at the police team in a desperate bid to flee. In order to protect their lives, the police personnel were forced to exercise their right to self-defense and launched a controlled retaliatory fire. During this exchange of bullets, the accused sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and collapsed on the spot.
Weapon Recovery and Immediate Medical Aid
Following his collapse, the police quickly overpowered the injured suspect and placed him under formal arrest. A thorough search of his person and immediate vicinity resulted in the seizure of illegal firearms. The Mau police confirmed the recovery of a 315 bore illegal pistol along with two live cartridges from his possession, which he had allegedly used to target the officers. Recognizing his medical condition, the police prioritized his health and immediately rushed him to the nearest medical facility. He was first brought to the Community Health Center in Kopaganj for urgent first aid. After an initial assessment and primary treatment, the attending doctors referred him to the District Hospital in Mau for advanced medical care, where he remains admitted under strict police vigilance.
Extensive Criminal Record Across Multiple Districts
The arrest of this wanted individual has shed light on his extensive involvement in organized crime. Initial investigations have revealed a long and troubling criminal history spanning multiple districts. The accused was a persistent headache for law enforcement not only in Mau but also in the neighboring district of Ballia. Official police records indicate that he has several serious criminal cases registered against him, particularly under the Cow Slaughter Act. Notably, additional cases related to his illicit activities are also lodged at the Sikandarpur police station in Ballia. Senior police officials have stated that a comprehensive background check is currently underway to uncover the full extent of his criminal footprint. Further legal proceedings are being initiated, and the police are investigating other aspects of this organized crime syndicate to apprehend any remaining accomplices.
