Taking an uncompromising stand on undocumented border crossings, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has declared that individuals entering the territory without legal papers will no longer be sheltered inside state penitentiaries at taxpayers expense. Addressing a public gathering in Raiganj within Uttar Dinajpur district, he stated unequivocally that individuals crossing over from Bangladesh will be directed straight back along the exact routes through which they entered. Prior to their formal removal across the border, such individuals will be detained inside designated holding stations rather than serving lengthy jail terms.
Cow Protection and Stringent Directives Against Harm
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister underscored the protection of cattle as a matter of cultural reverence, stating that cows must not face cruelty or harm because the Hindu community regards them as sacred. Delivering a firm advisory to the public and administration alike, he warned against any assault or damage directed at cattle. He asserted that anyone failing to adhere to this directive would face strict administrative and police intervention without leniency, reiterating his administration's determination to preserve social harmony and rural security across the district.
Zero Tolerance for Separatists and Citizenship Assurance Under CAA
The Chief Minister launched a sharp critique against fringe groups advocating separatism, asserting that entities chanting subversive slogans must never be permitted to operate in sensitive border belts. Emphasizing the vulnerability of border regions, he insisted that disruptive groups seeking to undermine national integrity would find no space to expand their footprint. Turning to the humanitarian dimension along the border, he reaffirmed his administration's dedication to securing citizenship for Hindu refugees under the provisions of the CAA framework.
Addressing the concerns of long-standing migrant populations, he guaranteed that not a single Hindu refugee would be allowed to languish in jail. The administration plans to pursue immediate legal recourse to release any detained refugees and fast-track their statutory citizenship rights under the law. He urged all eligible individuals who have yet to file their citizenship paperwork to submit their formal applications immediately. To safeguard these vulnerable frontier belts, he stated that unauthorized religious seminaries operating without valid recognition would not be tolerated, ensuring that anti-national elements cannot exploit unregulated premises.
Healthcare Modernization and Healthcare Infrastructure Plans
Outlining developmental priorities for northern Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari pledged a systemic overhaul of regional healthcare delivery. He announced that a formal proposal will soon be forwarded to the central government seeking the establishment of an AIIMS facility in Raiganj. Furthermore, plans are underway to build a specialized cancer hospital in Jalpaiguri, bringing advanced oncology care closer to patients who otherwise travel long distances for critical therapy. Touching upon state law enforcement reforms, he observed that police officers serving on highways and public streets now operate with renewed professional discipline.
