A major security breach has been uncovered at the Presidency Jail in Kolkata, long considered one of the most tightly guarded correctional facilities in West Bengal. During a surprise inspection, authorities discovered a significant stash of sophisticated electronic communication devices inside the cell of Aftab Ansari, the primary mastermind behind the 2002 terror attack on the American Center in Kolkata. The seizure of high-tech gear from a high-security cell has triggered widespread alarm among prison administrators and intelligence agencies.
Comprehensive List of Electronics Recovered From the Cell
The search operation, carried out by jail authorities, led to the confiscation of multiple high-grade communication gadgets directly from Ansari's possession. The seized inventory includes one Apple iPhone, a pair of other smartphones, two Wi-Fi routers, one pen drive, and one memory card reader. Additionally, officers recovered OTG cables and an OTG adapter used for hardware connectivity. The presence of two functional Wi-Fi routers and three total smartphones inside a restricted barrack strongly indicates that the convict maintained active digital access to the outside world.
Suspicious Communications and Foreign Links Under Investigation
The discovery of internet routers and multiple phones has raised critical questions regarding the extent of Ansari's network from behind bars. Investigators are attempting to trace all incoming and outgoing connections to determine whether he was communicating with overseas handlers in Pakistan or attempting to orchestrate a fresh criminal enterprise. This is not the first time Ansari's communication channels have drawn scrutiny; he was previously accused of placing calls from inside the prison facility to his wife residing in Karachi, Pakistan.
Criminal Profile and Past High-Profile Offenses
Aftab Ansari has been linked to several high-profile criminal cases across India over the past two decades. Most notably, he orchestrated the January 2002 terrorist attack targeting the American Center in Kolkata, which resulted in multiple security personnel casualties. Apart from the terror incident, Ansari was a prime accused in the kidnapping of Partha Roy Burman, the proprietor of the Khadim Shoe Company. He has also been named in major illegal weapons trafficking operations originating in Gujarat.
FIR Filed at Hastings Police Station and Internal Inquiry Launched
Following the contraband recovery, a formal FIR was registered late last night at the Hastings Police Station in Kolkata. The legal complaint targets Aftab Ansari along with suspect facilitators who assisted in smuggling the electronic hardware into the prison premises. Law enforcement agencies are conducting a rigorous investigation to identify whether any prison personnel or internal security staff colluded to smuggle the devices into the facility.
