Baloch insurgents have intensified their offensive across Pakistan's restive Balochistan province, putting security forces on high alert. A wave of coordinated strikes, including multiple assaults on military convoys along the N40 highway, railway track bombings, and high-profile abductions, has triggered widespread panic and prompted sweeping security operations throughout the region.
In Mastung district, unidentified gunmen shot and killed police constable Ehsanullah near a private library. Although he was rushed to a hospital immediately, medical personnel could not save his life. Local police have registered a case and launched a rigorous manhunt to apprehend the culprits behind the attack.
Three Successive Attacks on Security Convoys
The violence escalated sharply in Chagai district along the N40 highway, where a moving security forces convoy was targeted in three separate sequential assaults.
During the initial attack, a truck moving directly ahead of the convoy was set on fire. While this truck was not a formal part of the convoy, the incident created immediate chaos.
In the second assault, heavy gunfire blew out a tire of one of the vehicles belonging to the security convoy.
The third attack met with resistance as security forces fired back in retaliation, prompting the attackers to flee the scene.
Claims of 97 Pakistani Soldiers Killed in One Month
The Balochistan Liberation Front, an active militant group operating in the province, has claimed that its fighters executed 48 military operations across the region during the month of July.
According to the organization's assertions, these operations resulted in the deaths of 97 Pakistani soldiers. In addition, 15 other personnel sustained severe injuries, and five individuals accused by the group of acting as informants were killed.
These figures came to light through a report published by The Balochistan Post. However, independent verification of these claims remains unavailable. Balochistan Liberation Front spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch stated in a monthly briefing that these operations were specifically aimed at targeting the Pakistan military, security infrastructure, economic assets, communication networks, and surveillance systems.
Abduction of Tribal Leader and Police Officer
Beyond highway ambushes, insurgent groups also carried out targeted abductions. In the Aranji area of Khuzdar district, armed individuals kidnapped tribal leader Mir Akhlaq Khidrani along with his brother Javed, though their third brother managed to escape unharmed.
Simultaneously, in Lasbela district, attackers raided a prominent police checkpost, forcing personnel to surrender their weapons before abducting Sub-Inspector Gulab and fleeing into the rugged terrain. Security forces have deployed rescue and search teams in both districts to trace the abducted individuals.
Railway Track Blast Ahead of Jafar Express
Transportation networks were also targeted when an explosive device detonated near the railway tracks in the Sariab area of Quetta, just moments before the Peshawar-bound Jafar Express was scheduled to pass.
The explosion caused minor damage to the railway line, which was promptly repaired by railway maintenance crews. Consequently, the train safely arrived in Quetta. Police, bomb disposal squads, and various intelligence agencies rushed to the site to initiate a comprehensive forensic investigation.
Following this relentless series of violent incidents, security measures have been drastically tightened across multiple districts of Balochistan while search operations continue unabated.
