During an interview with CNBC, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that diplomatic communications between the two nations remain active, with constructive progress being made toward normalization. He noted that ongoing discussions with Iran foster optimism that an accord could be reached imminently. Such an agreement would facilitate the complete reopening of Hormuz, representing a vital step toward de-escalating the broader regional standoff.
Addressing Transit Fees and Toll Speculation
When questioned about whether the prospective arrangement would permit Iran to levy transit fees on passing vessels, Bessent dismissed the notion firmly. He emphasized that the primary objective of the negotiation is to guarantee uninterrupted commercial navigation through the strait. Consequently, ships from all nations would be permitted to traverse the crucial marine corridor without incurring any extra financial charges or tolls.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian asserted that his administration harbors no desire to escalate existing tensions further. Nevertheless, he cautioned that should the nation security, territorial borders, or sovereignty face genuine threats, Tehran would not hesitate to deploy all necessary measures in self-defense.
