A night of celebration turned into grief within moments in Bihar's Jahanabad district. A tilak ceremony was underway in one of the district's villages when a bullet fired during celebratory gunfire struck and killed a 10-year-old boy. The child died on the spot, while two others standing nearby were wounded by pellets. The festivities at the wedding household instantly gave way to screams and panic, and the entire area was thrown into shock.
The incident took place in Sujatpur village, under the Ghosi police station limits. According to accounts, a tilak ceremony had been arranged on Wednesday night at the home of Krishna Yadav, a local resident. To entertain the guests and villagers, a bar dancers' performance had been organised outside the house. Among those who had gathered to watch it was Roshan, also known as Alok Kumar, the 10-year-old son of Vipin Yadav.
Bullets flew in the middle of the dance
According to eyewitnesses and family members, just as the dance performance was at its peak, some men from the village pulled out illegal weapons and began firing wildly into the air. One of those bullets pierced straight through Roshan's head, killing him on the spot. Pellets that scattered after striking the boy's head also hit two villagers standing close by, leaving them with minor injuries.
The moment the shots rang out, chaos broke out at the venue. People ran in every direction to save themselves. Using the stampede as cover, the accused fled the scene waving their weapons. The boy's death has left his family inconsolable, and there is deep anger across the village.
Police launch investigation
As soon as word of the incident spread, a police team from Ghosi police station reached Sujatpur village with reinforcements and brought the situation under control. The body was taken into custody and sent to the Sadar Hospital for a postmortem. The SP said the matter is being investigated thoroughly, that the accused have been identified, and that raids are being carried out at their likely hideouts. Police have assured that the culprits will soon be put behind bars.
