Cross-Border Human Trafficking Ring Exposed From Bangladesh To Kashmir As Railway Police Intercept Suspects

A trafficking syndicate luring girls from Bangladesh refugee camps and moving them illegally to Jammu and Kashmir has been busted following six arrests, with cases referred to the NIA.

A clandestine cross-border human trafficking operation moving young women of Myanmar origin from refugee settlements in Bangladesh into Jammu and Kashmir has been uncovered by law enforcement agencies. Railway police recently detained six Rohingya Muslims, comprising two young men and four girls, during an interception. Among the intercepted females, two were found to be minors who had been brought across the international boundary without valid documentation. Investigators revealed that the suspects were planning to orchestrate marriages for all four girls in Jammu and Kashmir. Custodial interrogation has brought to light the syndicate's financial structure, pricing models, and how illicit profits were distributed across different tiers of intermediaries.

Transaction Costs, Payouts, and Broker Margins

Interrogation findings indicate that the syndicate negotiated the sale of these women at prices ranging from 80 thousand to 1.20 lakh rupees per individual. The local handlers and transit conduits received a cut between 15 and 20 thousand rupees per assignment. The remainder of the transaction amount was funneled back across the border to Hamdullah, who coordinates operations from Bangladesh.

Police stated that approximately 25 days prior to these arrests, two other women sneaked out of a Bangladesh refugee camp were sold in Srinagar for 80 thousand rupees each. In that specific transaction, a handler named Hasan pocketed 15 thousand rupees per woman, while the Srinagar-based intermediary routed the remaining funds to Hamdullah. Once handed over in the valley, the local agent assigned the women as domestic help across different residential premises.

Coordinated Crackdown from Bhopal to Aligarh

The network began unravelling roughly five days ago following actionable intelligence from the Bhopal Government Railway Police. Acting on the alert, officers boarded the Swarna Jayanti Express and apprehended Mubin, a resident of Buthidaung Dhambazar in Myanmar. During interrogation, Mubin provided specific details regarding the hideout of Mohammad Hasan.

Police teams immediately raided Hasan's base in Aligarh, leading to the rescue of two minor girls from the premises. Administrative and legal procedures are currently underway to facilitate their safe return under proper care protocols.

Transit Pipeline from Kutupalong Camp to Srinagar

The investigation traced the origin of the trafficking chain to the Kutupalong refugee camp in Bangladesh. At the camp, Hamdullah allegedly targeted vulnerable families with promises of respectable employment and sound matrimonial prospects for their daughters in India. Once parents gave their consent, the physical movement of the victims commenced through informal frontier crossings.

A handler identified as Mohammad Ali was tasked with escorting the girls across the river under cover of night, followed by a rigorous five-hour trek through dense jungle tracks into Indian territory. After crossing the border, the victims were brought to Howrah and subsequently transported by rail to Aligarh. From Aligarh, the network ferried them to Jammu before taking them to Srinagar via private taxis. Mubin and Adil played key logistical roles throughout this overland transit pipeline. Given the inter-state and cross-border ramifications, both the Intelligence Bureau and the Anti-Terrorism Squad have interrogated the accused, and Superintendent of Police (Rail) Ankit Jaiswal stated that a formal communication has been dispatched to the National Investigation Agency to take forward the wider probe.
