A tragic incident has emerged from Hiranki village in the Alipur police station area of Outer North Delhi, where four school students were swept away by the powerful currents of the Yamuna River. A fifth friend, who remained on the riverbank, witnessed the entire ordeal while pleading for help. Since the incident, local authorities and search-and-rescue agencies have been working tirelessly to locate the children, though there has been no success in finding them so far.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening when five friends, all studying in the same class at the same school, arrived at the 24-number spur of the Yamuna River in Hiranki village. While four of the boys decided to enter the river for a swim, their fifth friend, Lucky, chose to stay on the bank. According to Lucky, all five friends reached the riverfront at approximately 4:00 PM. One of the boys suggested bathing in the river after their clothes became soiled in the mud, leading Anshu, Saurabh, Rahul, and Amandeep to step into the water, while Lucky stayed behind on dry ground.
Trapped in the Current
Shortly after entering the river, the four students were overwhelmed by the intense flow of the water. Lucky witnessed his friends struggling against the current and immediately began shouting to alert nearby residents for assistance. Although people rushed to the location, the strength of the river had already pulled the four boys deep into the stream before anyone could intervene. Upon receiving notification, teams from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the fire department, and the local police arrived at the site to launch a rescue operation.
Rescue Efforts and Family Grief
The search operation continued late into Sunday night but had to be paused due to the onset of darkness. The rescue teams resumed their efforts on Monday morning. The four missing children are reported to be between 14 and 15 years old. Following the tragedy, the families of the victims are devastated, and a pall of gloom has descended over Hiranki village. The bereaved families have leveled allegations of negligence against the administration, claiming that if the rescue teams had reached the site more promptly, the children might have been saved.
