In a harrowing incident that occurred on Wednesday in the C Block area of Hari Nagar, West Delhi, a 23-year-old woman committed suicide. The victim first set herself on fire before jumping from the third floor of her residence. The impact of the fall caused chaos in the vicinity, leading the landlord to alert the authorities immediately. Personnel from the Hari Nagar police station and a crime scene unit arrived at the location and transported the injured woman to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where she was declared dead by doctors.
Living with her father and son
The deceased was identified as Lakshmi, a native of Madhya Pradesh who had been living in Delhi with her father and young son. She was married in 2018 to a man named Rajendra, who resided separately in their village. At the time of the incident, Lakshmi's father was out for work. According to preliminary reports, the woman took this extreme step following a heated argument with her husband.
Marital dispute and emotional distress
Lakshmi's father, Jahan Singh, informed the police that she and her husband had been involved in marital discord since 2023. As a result of this ongoing domestic strife, Lakshmi had been living at their Hari Nagar home under her father's care. She was also reportedly struggling with significant stress regarding the welfare and custody of her child.
Resigned from job recently
According to her father, Lakshmi was previously employed at a clothing shop called Goyal Sons in Uttam Nagar, but she had quit her job just 4 to 5 days ago. Following her resignation, she was under considerable mental strain, particularly concerning the upbringing and custody of her child. The family has not leveled any formal accusations against anyone in connection with this tragic incident.
Police investigation and search for evidence
A crime team visited the spot to examine the area and collect forensic evidence. Police confirmed that no suicide note was found at the scene. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Authorities have stated that the exact circumstances of the death will be established only after the post-mortem report is finalized.
