A catastrophic road accident claimed the lives of four residents of Mumbai on the Bharatmala Expressway in Gujarat's Surat district on Friday morning. The fatal collision occurred near Dhatva village in the Kamrej taluka when a private car, travelling towards Gujarat, rammed violently into a dumper parked along the route. The impact was devastating, crushing the car and resulting in the immediate death of all four occupants travelling inside the vehicle before any medical assistance could be administered.

According to police officials, the tragedy unfolded at around 8:00 AM on Friday as the vehicle was proceeding along the Mumbai to Delhi corridor of the Bharatmala Expressway. Police Inspector RB Gojia of the Kamrej police station stated that the car, bearing a Maharashtra registration number, crashed directly into a dumper that was stationed in the fifth lane of the expressway. Preliminary assessments indicate that the car was moving at a very high rate of speed when it struck the stationary heavy vehicle.
Victims Identified as Mumbai Residents Travelling to Jain Shrine
The severity of the collision left the passenger vehicle severely mangled, causing fatal injuries on the spot to all four occupants. The deceased have been identified as Rajiv Jain, Jayanti Doshi, Pravin Jain, and Sanjay Khemchand, all aged between 35 and 40 years. The group had departed from Mumbai and was travelling towards the Shankheshwar Jain pilgrimage site situated in Gujarat's Patan district. Among the victims, Rajiv Jain originally belonged to Rajasthan and operated a jewellery shop in Mumbai.
Police Launch Detailed Investigation into Vehicle Speed and Parking Violations
Following alerts regarding the crash, police personnel arrived at the scene to recover the bodies and clear the damaged vehicles to ensure normal traffic flow. Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the precise circumstances surrounding the crash, focusing on the operating speed of the car at the moment of impact and how the driver lost control. Additionally, investigators are probing the presence of the dumper parked in the fifth lane of the expressway to determine whether any safety guidelines, warning lights, or traffic regulations were disregarded by the heavy vehicle operator.
