Electricity employees across Haryana have begun a strike starting from the previous night as talks between the government and employee unions failed to yield any consensus. Following the deadlock, the Haryana Power Employees Union announced a strike from October 22 to October 24. In response, the district administration in Hisar has gone on high alert, implementing comprehensive arrangements to maintain public order and keep electricity supplies running smoothly.
Strict Monitoring of Critical Power Infrastructure
The district administration has stepped up surveillance across sub-stations, distribution systems, and thermal power stations. Senior officials have been specifically assigned duty to oversee these vital locations. Control rooms are being manned by senior-level personnel round the clock to monitor critical infrastructure continuously and ensure that security protocols at power installations remain robust and uninterrupted throughout the duration of the strike.
Ensuring Power to Essential Services
Authorities have emphasized that power supply will be strictly maintained for all essential services. Hospitals, water supply networks, and railway facilities will continue to receive uninterrupted electricity to prevent any disruption in public welfare services and medical care during the protest period.
Section 163 and Heavy Police Deployment
To prevent any unlawful assembly or disruption of peace, the administration has enforced Section 163 within a 100-meter radius of all electricity installations. Officials have made it clear that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to create disturbances under the guise of the electricity department protests. Security is being managed under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police across the district. A total of 400 police personnel have been deployed at sub-stations, distribution systems, thermal power stations, and other key electricity facilities. Additionally, 20 quick response and emergency teams have been constituted, alongside a sufficient number of duty magistrates stationed alongside police officers at critical installations.
Round-the-Clock Control Rooms Established
To handle grievances and monitor the situation continuously, 24-hour control rooms have been set up at the Deputy Commissioner office, the Superintendent of Police office, and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam office. The control room numbers are 01662-231137 for the Deputy Commissioner office, 01662-237150 and 8814012342 for the Superintendent of Police office, and 09812452597 for the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam office. Staff and officials have been deployed in multiple shifts across all control rooms. Citizens can also immediately report any disruption or disorder by dialing 112.
Government Stance and Minister Statements
Addressing the broader concerns, Power Minister Anil Vij held discussions with the union representatives in Chandigarh. He stated that the government had previously opposed handing over power supply to a private company in Nuh and Gurugram. Furthermore, he noted that the government would file an appeal against the decision of the regulatory commission.
