A startling claim has surfaced over Pakistan's Balochistan province. A statement issued in the name of the Republic of Balochistan says it has established control over 85 percent of Balochistan. The statement also claims that, having declared itself an independent nation, it has adopted a national anthem titled 'Ma Chukain Balochani', a national flag, and its own currency called the 'Balochi Falus'. The statement was made public through a letter shared on the social media platform X by Baloch social and political activist, journalist and human rights advocate Mir Yar Baloch.
Claims of control over gold, copper mines and gas fields
The letter shared by Mir Yar Baloch claims that Baloch security and defence forces are now administering the entire region. According to the letter, these forces have direct control over gold and copper mines. It further claims control over more than 150 gas fields and over 1,200 coal mines. In other words, the statement is not just about political independence, it also makes a sweeping claim over control of the region's natural resources.
A force of 500,000 personnel claimed, but no heavy weapons
According to the claim, Balochistan's army, navy, air force and civil administration together form a force of 5,00,000 personnel. The statement says this entire force is ready to drive out Pakistan's occupying forces from the region by the end of 2026. However, the statement also openly admits that it does not possess fighter jets, tanks, missiles or any heavy weapons, meaning a large headcount is claimed even as the lack of modern military hardware is acknowledged outright.
Claims of mass resignations from Pakistani security forces
The statement further claims that a large number of Baloch people, along with some members of the Pashtun community, are resigning from Pakistan's army, police, Frontier Corps and Levies. According to the letter, these resignations send a clear message to the world about where local sentiment in the region now stands.
An assurance offered to neighbouring countries
Addressing neighbouring countries directly, the letter shared by Mir Yar Baloch states, 'Balochistan is your neighbouring country. We assure our close neighbours that we will not allow the Pakistani army, navy and air force to use our land, airspace or coastline to create instability in this region.' Through this statement, an attempt has been made to show that the new setup is serious about regional stability.
An appeal for global recognition
The letter goes on to say, 'Now is the time for the free world to recognise the independence of the Republic of Balochistan and help start a new chapter of regional stability, ending Pakistan's decades old enmity, nuclear blackmail and extremism against its neighbouring countries.' This is a direct appeal to the international community for recognition and support.
Claims remain independently unverified
However, none of these claims have been independently or officially confirmed so far. The claims of control over 85 percent of the territory, a national anthem, flag, currency, military strength and control over mineral resources all currently rest solely on the letter shared by Mir Yar Baloch and the statement issued in the name of the Republic of Balochistan.
