Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on October 22 that India will continue to support every meaningful effort aimed at establishing peace in Ukraine and West Asia, following wide-ranging discussions with visiting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The Polish leader is currently on a three-day official visit to India amidst renewed global diplomatic initiatives to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Addressing the media after the high-level meeting, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that several key decisions have been finalized to expand the strategic partnership between India and Poland, reflecting a mutual commitment to broaden bilateral cooperation significantly.
Deepening Ties in Defense, Space, and Atomic Energy
Prime Minister Modi noted that both nations have agreed to intensify cooperation across critical sectors, specifically highlighting defense, space, and atomic energy. He formally invited Polish enterprises to partner with India in developing advanced technologies and co-producing equipment within these strategic domains. Highlighting the growing economic might of both countries, the Prime Minister pointed out that these developments have generated fresh avenues for the India-Poland partnership. Furthermore, he observed that an impending free trade agreement between India and the European Union will provide an additional robust boost to bilateral economic interactions.
Refining their shared worldview, Prime Minister Modi stressed that India and Poland share a steadfast belief in democratic principles and the rule of law. He argued that global governance institutions require urgent structural reforms to make them far more potent and effective in addressing contemporary challenges. Reiterating India's consistent diplomatic stance, he affirmed that whether the issue is the conflict in Ukraine or instability in West Asia, New Delhi remains firmly supportive of all constructive pathways toward lasting peace.
Trade Targets and Shared Historical Bonds
During the joint press briefing following their comprehensive discussions, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that bilateral relations have gained considerable momentum over the past two years. Both governments are now actively working toward a shared target of doubling bilateral trade volumes by the year 2030. The upcoming India-European Union Free Trade Agreement is expected to unlock vast new pathways for economic synergy between New Delhi and Warsaw.
Beyond contemporary geopolitics, the Prime Minister underscored that Indo-Polish ties are anchored deeply in shared humanitarian values. During the Second World War, the royal families of Jamnagar and Kolhapur provided a safe haven and shelter to thousands of Polish children and families. He noted with appreciation that the people of Poland continue to remember Jam Sahib affectionately as 'Dobry Maharaja' or 'The Good Maharaja', serving as a timeless testament to the historic friendship shared by the two nations.
Economic Growth and New Investment Avenues
Describing India and Poland as rising epicenters of innovation, technology, and economic growth amidst current global uncertainties, the Prime Minister pointed to India's robust economic growth rate of 7.8 percent recorded in the previous quarter. He stated that the operationalization of the India-EU free trade pact will open up extensive new export opportunities for Indian machinery, chemicals, plastics, and engineering goods heading to Poland.
Welcoming the substantial business delegation accompanying the Polish Prime Minister, Prime Minister Modi remarked that corporate entities from both nations can collaborate to build highly reliable and resilient supply chains. He emphasized the immense potential for attracting fresh investments from Poland into key sectors such as railways, advanced manufacturing, urban mobility, food processing, and biotechnology, reaffirming that both governments are fully dedicated to elevating trade and investment partnerships to unprecedented heights.
