A month-long search for a missing tourist in Rajasthan concluded tragically after authorities recovered the decomposed body of 30-year-old Sandeep Jat from the rugged terrain of Savitri Mata hill in Pushkar. The youth, who hailed from Jind district in Haryana, had vanished shortly after arriving at the holy pilgrimage town with his family. The recovery of the body on Monday came as a devastating blow to his relatives, who had been actively combing the surrounding area alongside local law enforcement officers.
Family Trip to Pilgrimage Site Preceded Sudden Disappearance
Sandeep Jat reached the temple town of Pushkar in Ajmer district on September 5 accompanied by his family members. The group had checked in and stayed at the Jat Vishram Sthali. However, on the following day, September 6, Sandeep stepped out of the lodging without informing anyone in the family. When he failed to return after several hours, his anxious relatives initiated a search across the town but found no trace of him.
Missing Person Report Lodged as Extensive Combing Began
Unable to establish contact or locate his whereabouts, the family approached the Pushkar police station on September 8 to file a formal missing person report. Following the complaint, police teams joined the family in scouring Pushkar and neighboring areas. For weeks, search efforts yielded little breakthrough until electronic evidence shifted the focus of the investigation toward the surrounding hills.
Discovery of Mobile Phone Led Search Teams to Hillside
A crucial lead surfaced on October 3 when search teams discovered Sandeep's mobile phone lying in the vicinity of the Savitri Mata hill. The recovery of the device indicated his presence in the rocky elevation, prompting investigators to intensify their combing operation across the slopes. Concentrating their efforts around the perimeter where the phone was retrieved, police personnel and local residents located his remains on Monday in the elevated rocky zone.
Autopsy Conducted by Medical Board as Investigation Continues
Investigating officer Kamlesh Meena confirmed that a police team inspected the scene immediately upon notification, bringing the remains down from the hillside with community assistance before taking custody of the body. Because the body was severely decomposed from prolonged exposure, the exact circumstances and timing of death could not be determined on site. The body was secured at the hospital mortuary, and following a formal post-mortem examination conducted by a medical board on Tuesday, the remains were handed over to the grieving family while police continue probing the incident from multiple angles.
